Introducing an automated system for protecting Texas coastlines along the Gulf of Mexico
From thriving tourism and beautiful coral reefs to the health and economy of the Gulf Coast fishing industry, researchers at Texas A&M University have developed a way to protect the Texas coastline with the Texas Automated Buoy System (TABS).
The buoy system played a prominent role in the cleanup of the oil spill in the Houston Ship Channel in March 2014:
- “A&M-Galveston researchers ready to put expertise to work on oil spill,” Bryan-College Station Eagle, March 25, 2014.
- “After Oil Spill, Ships Start Moving — But Cleanup Has Just Begun,” Texas Public Radio, March 25, 2014.
