Center for Housing & Urban Development

Center for Housing & Urban Development

To provide leadership as a center of inquiry for the creation of sustainable housing and communities which feature vibrant economies; offer a choice of housing and transportation; are closer to jobs, schools, shopping, and recreation; are less energy dependent; and help protect clean water and air.

The Center for Housing & Urban Development (CHUD) has a long history of serving border residents in the Texas Colonias. In 2012, CHUD reinvented itself as a research center for faculty and students conducting research related to housing, sustainable development, and urban issues. The Center brings together urban planning, architects, landscape architects, construction scientists, political scientists, sociologists, engineers, and others to address problems of the built environment.
