Save the spinal cord

Researchers led by Professor James Grau in the Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences, Texas A&M University, are looking for ways to better protect the spinal cord following a traumatic injury. For example, they are studying the harmful effects of bleeding at the site of injury and how curtailing pain input can reduce tissue loss. This new knowledge could change the way patients are treated in the emergency room as well as on the battlefield.
