EnMed to enhance innovative research with $15 million expansion
Project is expected to boost innovative research capacity and attract top-tier faculty
The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents has approved a $15 million investment to expand the facilities for School of Engineering Medicine in Houston. This addition is expected to bolster the program’s capacity for innovative research and attract leading faculty researchers.
Dr. Roderic Pettigrew, dean of EnMed, expressed enthusiasm about the new facilities, emphasizing their potential to foster groundbreaking advancements in healthcare. “This expansion will allow us to put into action more great ideas for advancing practical innovations in healthcare through our unique fusion of engineering and medicine,” said Pettigrew.
Scheduled for completion by May 2025, the construction project will add laboratory space on two levels of the EnMed Tower.
Chancellor John Sharp highlighted the strategic advantage this expansion brings, noting it will strengthen EnMed’s role as a hub for cutting-edge research and academic excellence.
EnMed is known for its unique program where students earn both a medical degree and a master’s degree in engineering innovation. This dual-degree program, designed to train physicianeers, aims to develop solutions to contemporary healthcare challenges.
