Fathering a child? Don’t drink

Doctors routinely warn prospective mothers to avoid drinking alcohol, but what about prospective fathers? In the United States, 70 percent of all males say they consume alcohol, and 40 percent say they binge. In new research funded by the W.M. Keck Foundation, three Texas A&M scientists—Michael Golding, Rajesh Miranda, and Linglin Xie—are exploring the genetic links between fathers who consume alcohol and children who are born with fetal alcohol spectrum disorders.
