HRPP Recommends REDCap

The Human Research Protection Program is recommending the use of REDCap to support research record management, especially for interventional studies which includes both clinical and social and behavioral research.

REDCap is a secure web-based application that is accessible on any web browser. REDCap is compliant with the Title 21 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 11 Electronic Records: Electronic Signatures, the Federal Information Security Modernization Act, the General Data Protection Regulation, and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.

REDCap is a flexible application that can be used in a variety of ways, such as a data entry form to record participants’ vital signs or demographic data and for electronic informed consent securely capturing a participant’s signature. Single visit studies as well as longitudinal projects requiring scheduling at specific time points are both examples of REDCap’s versatility. REDCap is ideal for investigator-initiated studies and collaborative or multi-site projects as it allows secure access for external users.

Over 6,000 institutions currently use REDCap to manage their research. The system is free of charge to Texas A&M investigators and is supported by the REDCap team from Texas A&M Technology Services.
