Texas A&M University is one of the world’s leading research institutions, dedicated to advancing knowledge and serving the public good. As a land-grant, sea-grant and space-grant university, Texas A&M engages in research that spans multiple disciplines and addresses global challenges. It is the first research institution in Texas to top $1 billion in annual research expenditures (fiscal year 2021).
National Science Foundation Rankings
Research conducted at Texas A&M generated annual expenditures of more than $1.278 billion in fiscal year 2023. Texas A&M ranked 14th among public universities in the National Science Foundation’s most recent Higher Education Research and Development Survey based on annual expenditures of more than $1.153 billion in fiscal year 2022.
Wall Street Journal / Times Higher Education
Texas A&M is No. 1 among Texas universities, No. 6 among public universities and No. 38 overall among nearly 800 colleges in the 2024 Wall Street Journal Best Colleges in the U.S.
The Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education rankings use multiple grading criteria based on four broad categories: resources, engagement, outcomes and environment. Included in those categories are numerous other metrics, including reputation; costs; graduation rates; student loans and default rates; earning power after graduation; amount of faculty research; number of accredited programs; student and faculty/staff diversity; number of international students and student-faculty ratio.
US News & World Report
Texas A&M is No. 20 among best public universities in “US News & World Report Best College Rankings” for 2024. Texas A&M is No.13 for best undergraduate engineering program.
The College of Engineering ranked No. 13 nationally and its petroleum engineering program ranked No. 1 nationally, its aerospace program ranked No.10 nationally, its civil program ranked No. 7 nationally, its biological and agricultural program ranked No. 3 nationally and its cybersecurity program ranked No. 11 among public universities.
Mays Business School ranked No. 29 nationally, and its management program ranked No. 8 among public universities.
The Education Abroad program ranked No. 16 nationally and Nursing is No. 25 among public universities.
US News & World Report 2023 edition of the Best Graduate Schools rankings assesses multiple types of graduate programs, including the six disciplines with some of the largest enrollments: business, law, medicine, nursing, public affairs, public health, science, veterinary medicine, engineering and education. US News routinely adds new specialties within these disciplines to make these rankings more complete.
The College of Engineering’s masters’ programs ranked No. 10 nationally. Its petroleum engineering and nuclear engineering programs ranked No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. Its degree in civil engineering ranked No. 14.
The School of Law’s program ranked No. 29 nationally. Its programs in dispute resolution and intellectual property law ranked among the top 10 in the nation.
The School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical science ranked at No.10 overall in the nation.
The College of Arts and Sciences programs of inorganic chemistry and nuclear physics ranked No. 5 and No. 7.
The School of Education and Human Development’s program in educational psychology was ranked at No. 16.
Washington Monthly
Washington Monthly ranks Texas A&M No. 21—eleventh among US public universities and the only institution in Texas among the top 30—in its 2021 ranking of US universities that contribute most to the public good in social mobility, research, and the promotion of public service. The 2021 National University Rankings lists Texas A&M No. 8 in social mobility, and No. 32 in research. Texas A&M has consistently ranked among the nation’s leaders since the publication began its annual survey in 2005. In addition, the magazine ranks Texas A&M No. 2 in its Best Bang for the Buck: South ranking.
MONEY magazine
Texas A&M is ranked No. 11 in MONEY magazine’s new best value ranking, a list that ranks more than 700 four-year colleges around the country based on quality of education, affordability, and graduates’ earnings as they pursue their careers. Texas A&M is the only public Texas college ranked among the top 25.
Forbes
Forbes ranked Texas A&M No.17 among best public universities and No.10 among best schools in the South. Texas A&M is listed among the top 40 leading research universities.
Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE)
Sustainable Campus Index 2021 recognized Texas A&M as a top performer in the area of research. A publication from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), the Sustainable Campus Index recognizes top-performing sustainable colleges and universities overall and in seventeen impact areas as measured by the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS).
