Biography

Gabriel Rivera is an associate director who leads the Multidisciplinary Proposal Development and Research Enhancement Services Offices.

The Multidisciplinary Proposal Development Office provides extensive guidance, competitive intelligence, and tactical proposal development support throughout the proposal development process, including concept refinement, writing, editing, grantsmanship, and proposal review, to support research teams in pursuing multidisciplinary, complex, or center-level proposals. Since Rivera assumed oversight of the office in August 2022, the office has supported various A&M research teams in securing over $113M in external funding.

The Research Enhancement Services Office manages the Limited Submission Process to provide a transparent, equitable, and efficient method for selecting proposals with institutional limits. The team also manages the internal seed programs that support generating preliminary data, exploring new directions or collaborations, and strengthening existing collaborations for major proposal submissions.

Before joining Texas A&M in 2017, Rivera worked at New Mexico State University (NMSU) for 15 years, facilitating the proposal development process for large federal contracts at NMSU’s Physical Science Laboratory. He later became a founding member of NMSU’s Research Development Office, which assisted faculty-led research groups in pursuing large, multidisciplinary funding opportunities. Rivera holds an MBA and a B.S. in biology from NMSU.
