Learning, Emotions, and Parenting (LEAP)

Overview

The LEAP study aims to understand how families help children develop emotions about learning. Families with kindergarteners are welcome to sign up for the study.

1. Activities: Each family (a primary caregiver and their child) will be invited to participate in a 2 hour visit to our research lab located near TAMU campus. Each family will play some games, fill out questionnaires, and solve some math and reading problems. We will also measure heart rate activities using some stickers.
2. We will repeat the activities at 1-year and 2-year follow-ups.
3. We will also follow up with each family virtually 6, 18, and 30 months after the initial visit, when we will repeat some, but not all activities, at the initial visit.
4. All visits can be scheduled at a convenient time for each family, including evenings and weekends.
5. Each family will receive $420 for participation in all six visits, which are prorated at
   • $80 for the initial visit
   • $40 for the 6-month virtual follow up
   • $90 for the 1-year in-person follow up
   • $50 for the 18-month virtual follow up
   • $100 for the 2-year in-person follow up
   • $60 for the 30-month virtual follow up
