Research Compliance and Biosafety

Research Compliance and Biosafety (RCB) ensures the highest standards of research integrity and compliance at Texas A&M University by promoting safe, ethical, and scholarly activity that aligns with the university’s mission.

Core Functions 

  • Supports the Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) to oversee human subjects research and ensure compliance with federal and institutional regulations. 
  • Works with the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) to oversee research involving biohazards and other regulated materials. 
  • Provides occupational health services through the Biosafety Occupational Health Program (BOHP) for individuals working with biohazards or animals. 
  • Collaborates with the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) to ensure humane care and use of animals in research and teaching. 
  • Maintains transparency and compliance through detailed research roadmaps and online submission systems. 

Services 

Human Research Protection Program (HRPP)

Provides support to the Institutional Review Boards (IRB) and offers education, outreach, and guidance on human subjects research compliance. 

Biosafety Program

Reviews and approves research involving pathogens, recombinant nucleic acids, toxins, and other regulated materials. 

Biosafety Occupational Health Program (BOHP)

Coordinates health services for personnel handling biohazards or animals. 

Animal Welfare Office

Facilitates compliance with federal and institutional requirements for animal research and serves as a liaison to the IACUC.

Offers resources and technical assistance through the RCB Toolkit and online systems.
