If you agree to participate, you will be asked to provide a complete set of questionnaires, undergo a brain scan and noninvasive brain stimulation, and complete tasks (much like computer games) at the brain imaging scanner. The study will consist of three separate visits, each about 1 week apart. In the first session you will complete questionnaires, undergo an MRI scan, complete one session of non-invasive brain stimulation, and complete a short computerized cognitive test. The first session of stimulation will determine the signal threshold for the remaining sessions. In the next two sessions, you will undergo a short stimulation procedure and then complete computerized cognitive tasks.
Participants in this study will be right-handed English-speaking adults between the ages of 18 and 30. Participants must be able to safely undergo MRI; participants should not have any of the following: implants (metallic or powered), claustrophobia, large tattoos within the last 6 months, surgery within the last 6 months, non-removable piercings, or permanent makeup, and should be able to lay on their back for up to 30 minutes. Participants will be excluded based on safety measures for non-invasive brain stimulation procedures. This may include a history of seizure, stroke, or neurological disorder, pregnancy, use of stimulant medications, or the presence of metal or magnetic objects near the head. Participants must refrain from alcohol within 24 hours of each session. Additionally, participants must have no self-reported history of allergies to soy, milk, wheat, or nuts, as these allergens are present in the candy provided. All participants will complete a safety screening form prior enrollment in the study.
